... and the star which hovered over the stable in Bethlehem? "The things that you’re liable to read in the bible it ain’t necessarily so." - Ira Gershwin. Again with Truth! Not many of us subscribe to the theory that all in Holy Writ is true, other than evangelical Christians that is. Some of us believe that the Bible contains the divinely inspired word of God that somehow gets lost in translation, subject to interpretation. The Catholic Church, I believe, does not view Scripture as valid in terms of science and history. In some British schools the Bible is taught as literature and as one of the wellsprings of western civilization. Even if the Bible contains a naive mythology and distorted ethical teachings, to ignore it would be to toss out the baby with the bath water. That expression, btw, comes from a German proverb das Kind mit dem Bade ausschütten, and was used by Martin Luther, Goethe, and Thomas Mann to mention a few. I'm sure LorrB wasn't referring to an actual star in Bethlehem but to a symbol, which marks the/a divine incarnation and a way-shower to the Magi.

Truth at my stage of understanding is relative.
Death - I know my body is going to die but I KNOW that "I" will move on.
So where lies the Truth there? Death is only terminal to the physical body.
Even Freemasons are shown how to trample the Prince of Terrors beneath their feet. They are raised up, or do they raise themselves up ? to a new level.

Karmic implications? Don't follow you foxfires. I was explaining my understanding of Truth ... at this stage of my development. I might well change my mind when I am dead LOL

>Do you realize the karmic implications of you proclaiming someone as truth
I think the issue is that by pushing some view as true, we may share the responsibility if the information is acted upon.
What then if the information is not true? (Or rather is true to a quite different entity)

So far we seem to have come to the position that amongst the privileges of ancient Freemasonry are: - freedom of thought - sitting with brethren in a lodge. Going back 6 pages to when we were last on topic: I think we might add to this that the structure of the Masonic temple provides an attractive point for energies of the planetary and heavenly temples. For example the pavement (where it exists in a lodge) provides easier access to the EW and NS flows - allowing observation of the regular reversals of direction. Equally the presence (or absence) of the chair in the North leads (some of) the brethren to experience the North. I mentioned that to a brother the other day who said that on one occasion she had her elbow on arm rest of that chair when the elbow was sharply knocked off. There was no one that she could see in the chair but she got the message. What then appears in the North?

Is one of the privileges of Masonry is to occupy one of the chairs - E, W and S when the energies are flowing and even to invoke those energies?
I recall a brother who was just installed as JW, sitting in his chair beaming as the energies flowed through him. I asked him afterwards and he was aware of the flow through him.

One of the common experiences amongst new brethren is that by some unobserved process their life changes quite a lot in their first year in Masonry.
I suspect that this is due to exposure to the GAOTU, particularly at the obligations.

LOVED the JW position. JOYFUL. Found the SW Chair a challenge.
All the EA's in our lodge seem to undergo a challenge in their personal life. We older Brn have noticed that over the years. Someone explained it once as a matter of life's challenges (and rewards) speeding up. Taking life at the run.

Someone explained it once as a matter of life's challenges (and rewards) speeding up. Taking life at the run. Strange! My experience was just the opposite. As JW I once set myself on fire, having backed into the lit candle on the JW's pedestal. Some of the Brn took it as a sign that I was not ready for that position (and I may not have been). Moving into the JW chair was like moving into sunlight. With the SW's words, "As the sun rises in the East to open and govern the day, so rises the Worshipful Master in the East" the RWM rose from his/her chair and we were a truly constituted L. of Freemasons. It was usually an exhilarating experience. Yes, it was like watching a seedling grow out of the confines of his life before Masonry touched the EA. As I recall, one EA was disappointed with us. "Too much work," he complained. In a larger L. he might have found what he was looking for. But it is the work that makes the Mason, "taking life at the run," as Lorr put it.

So I am beautiful and you are strong, stepn Are they mutually exclusive conditions? When will you be strong and I handsome/beautiful? Some occult traditions would say that we specialize in one of the 7 rays and that will be our work as humans into the unforeseeable future. Another tradition would say that our purpose as humans is to allow the Diety to fully realize his/her potential through us in any number of incarnations. In that case you are potentially strong and I... well there is always hope. In my first years in the Craft I was certain it was 7th Ray all the way and now I wonder if it may something else. I wonder if Lorr didn't come into her own as RWM after all that training as WJW.

>Some occult traditions would say that we specialize in one of the 7 rays
Each of our subtle bodies (and therefore chakras) may be conditioned by a different ray. E.g. a physical body may be conditioned by Ray 7 while the mental body is conditioned by Ray 2.
In my case, long ago I determined that my emotional body was conditioned by Ray 4 and as a result I tended to push too hard. I decided that was unacceptable and that my emotional body should be under Ray 2. It seemed to me that the change of Ray influence occurred over the following 6 months.
Looking back I am rather surprised at the sequence. I conclude there was some inner intent that was not apparent to my human structure at that time.

The candidate for initiation is said to be seeking the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry. What are they? Without reading through the thread again, from what I can remember, we have made some modest progress at least with the privileges. The privileges of ancient Freemasonry include: - being present when a lodge recognised by the GAOTU is opened - being connected into particular energy flows e.g. at corners of the temple and when the wands are crossed - use of particular signs and stances - being prepared for death by repeated exposure to the energies and process - experience with conducting and wielding particular energies e.g. the use of the knocks. These privileges, when properly experienced, give access to various mysteries, e.g. the knocks are not merely to awaken brethren.
