Star position in the sky is defined by a pair of angles. These two angles - which refer to the celestial equator - are called declination (abbrev. ä or Dec) and right ascension (á or RA). While ä is given in degrees (kkfrom +90° at the celestial north pole to -90° at the south pole), á is usually given in hours (0 ... 24h). This is due to the observation technique of star transits, which cross the eyepiece of telescopes because of the Earth's rotation. The observation techniques are topics of position astronomy and of astrogeodesy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_position

Between Earth and "Heaven" is the starry firmament, orb upon orb, wheels within wheels.. as each wheel moves it exerts an influence upon all others. All is in order. but the third and last being Charity, comprehends the :whole, and the Mason who is possessed of this virtue in its most ample sense, may justly be deemed to have attained the summit of his profession; figuratively speaking, an ethereal mansion, veiled from mortal eyes by the starry firmament,

And I have it from a scholar and a mystic that the G which sometimes appears between the Square and Compasses is a Gimel. Gimmel: Reward and Punishment
Our Sages teach that the gimel symbolizes a rich man running after a poor man, the dalet, to give him charity. The word gimel is derived from the word gemul, which in Hebrew means both the giving of reward as well as the giving of punishment. In Torah, both reward and punishment have the same ultimate aim the rectification of the soul to merit to receive God's light to the fullest extent.
Reward and punishment imply that man is free to choose between good and evil. (The teaching of the gimel thus refers back to that of the open left side of the beit, from which it is born, as explained above.) The Rambam (Maimonides), in particular, places great stress upon free choice as being fundamental to Jewish faith. According to the Rambam, the World to Come, the time of reward, is a completely spiritual world, one of souls without bodies. On this point the Ramban (Nachmanides) disagrees and argues that since complete freedom of choice exists only in our physical world, the ultimate rectification of reality the reward of the World to Come will also be on the physical plane. Kabbalah and Chassidut support the opinion of the Ramban.
This is alluded to by the leg of the letter gimel which expresses the running of the rich man to bestow good upon the poor man. Running, more than any other physical act, expresses the power of will and freedom of choice (the Hebrew word for "running," ratz, is related to the word for "will," ratzon). In running, the leg is firmly in contact with the earth; through an act of will, the soul directly affects physical reality. The final reward, the ultimate revelation of God's Essential light, will thus justly be bestowed upon the soul in the very same context as its life's endeavor, the physical world.
The Torah says: "Today [in this world] to do them," from which the Sages infer: tomorrow [in the World to Come] to receive their reward." Only "today" do we possess the opportunity to choose between good and evil. And so in accordance with our choice do we, ourselves, define the reward and punishment of "tomorrow." Just as evil is a finite phenomenon, so is punishment. Not so good and reward, which are truly infinite. The gimel of "today" is the secret of better one hour of teshuvah and good deeds in this world than all the life of the world to come. The gimel of "tomorrow" is the secret of better one hour of serenity in the world to come than all of the life of this world. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shape of the Gimel is not such a good fit with the G. There may be better interpretations.

The shape of the G might not be such a good fit with geometry or God either However it is a pretty good symbol for generation, ie sex, and it can be seen to demonstrate the moving from the centre to the outside world, or vice versa (the pregnant woman?)

ah-ha ... just found this. Letter G
In Hebrew, the language our Bible was originally written in, it is called Gheemel (or Gimel) and has a numerical value of 3.
Throughout history, we see reference to the number 3 when we speak of the Supreme Architect of the Universe...no matter which language we speak!
Gimel (in slightly different forms) is the 3rd letter of many Semitic languages including Phoenician, Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Syriac.
Phonecian: Gimel (11th century BCE)
Greek: Gamma (9th century BCE)
Aramaic: Gamal (800 BCE to 600 CE) (800 years Before Common Era to 600 years after Common Era)
Hebrew: Gimel (3rd century BCE)
Syriac: Gomal / Gamal (2nd century BCE)

We're getting further off topic, aren't we? Lorr's messages related to the Letter G and it's Hebrew equivalent Gimel, reminded me of an illustration in Morals and Dogma (I believe it was) of the East in one of the Scottish Rite degrees. The letter G was removed and letters in Paleo-Hebrew substituted for it. In this graphic the first line represents the Tetragrammaton in Paleo-Hebrew (10th century BCE to 135 CE); the 2nd line is in old Aramaic (10th century BCE to 4th century CE) and the third line gives the square Hebrew (3rd century BCE to present) scripts. May we use Lorr's method to unlock the secrets hidden in the old script?

Interesting foxfires, because the Tetragrammaton is said to be the same as Kabbalah (the Tree of Life) and explains how One comes into form. It is called The Sephiroth which means a "vessel to receive light."
The Sephiroth or Tree of Life shows how the Absolute created the universe, a process called involution (unfolding), the process by which Spirit comes into matter or the process by which Spirit creates matter.
According to Mouni Sadhu (The Tarot, p. 27), involution is "... the Self wrapping itself in material shells, or forms, lower instincts and feelings." Conversely, evolution is " ...the ascent of the superior principle from its merging in the inferior, dense realm, that is Spirit evolving (ascending) from matter." (p. 26) And, while we're on the subject, Sadhu says that "The general purpose of evolution is the removal from the Consciousness Self of all material veils. And this is the measure of progress in man."

>The Sephiroth which means a "vessel to receive light." I suspect that definition is based on the kabbalistic usage of the term. Sephir is the same as the English word Cipher. Thus the simple meaning of Sephiroth is Number. Pythagoras said that numbers are alive. If so the Tree is alive. Also Sephiroth may mean sapphire. Re the columnar image in the first post - Around 1220, about the time he went to study in Paris, Johannes de Sacrobosco published an astronomical manuscript that would become, approximately 250 years later, one of the first published “scientific” books.
The original of this image of "an instrument by which the roundness of the latitude of the world can be tested, and by which all other things are able to be shown, which the Creator delivered in the third part of the days of creation"
socrates.acadiau.ca/courses/engl/rcunningham/CC/CoTech.htm#heading1.1
So... the set square is a very practical instrument if we know how to use it. Maybe our set squares might be used in such a way that the practical energies/forces of our created Universe might be mapped out and used in our daily lives, that is .... the roundness of the latitude of the man or woman can be tested, and by which all other things are able to be shown, which the Creator delivered in the third part of the days of creation"

Astrology and Tarot both have their roots in the Kabbalah and are linked strongly to each other. Astrology as an esoteric science has been around for thousands of years. Astrology is often one of the first esoteric disciplines that people first come across and is all around us in our daily lives, i.e. newspapers and most magazines that we read. A personalised Birth Chart provides a fascinating mirror into our lives giving us insight into the skills and challenges we came into this life with

Astrology and the Virgin/Widow Sign of Virgo Virgo, the Virgin, symbolizes the woman in Marriage Culture as both the Right Woman and mother of the child, including the humanity of Christ. The constellation, Virgo, is portrayed as a young woman with a trident branch in one hand and a shock of corn in the other. The sign of Virgo is symbolized by Naphtali as a doe running free and Naphtali's eloquent utterance (Gen 49:21). Naphtali is a doe running free, Which gives eloquent utterance. (Genesis 49:21)
Naphtali means my wrestling; my conflict; my fought one (Gen 30:8). Calling Naphtali, wrestling, a doe is an anachronism. The doe is a female character. The doe running free symbolizes peace and freedom. Naphtali's freedom in about 1120 BC came under the command of Deborah, Israel's only female Judge, who led a great military victory over Jabin, King of Canaan, and his general Sisera. "Eloquent utterance" refers to a communication gift. The inheritance of the Tribe of Naphtali was in the region of Galilee of Jesus (Matt 4:15-16). Naphtali symbolized the bearer of good news (Is 52:7; Rom 10:15, Eph 6:15).
Naphtali symbolized a fleet-footed warrior (Psa 18:33; 2 Sam 22:34), as well as a carrier of good news in time of peace (Is 52:7; Matt 4:15-16; Rom 10:15, Eph 6:15). Naphtali also symbolized the victory over the Cosmic System of Spiritual Maturity (Psa 18:33; Deut. 32:13, Isa. 58:14). And Naphtali symbolizes the woman as last hope for deliverance of the nation under periods of national degeneracy when the men have failed (ref. Deborah and Jael, Judg 4, 5).
