Personal desires might have a lot to do with it. I want, I want... Maybe if we spent a little more time on 'how can I help' - we might find more happiness and fulfillment.
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting…trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, who is our home -Wordsworth
The Earth is subject to the attention of more intelligent groups than the human race. Some of those groups compete - including for human followers. Much human dissension arises from the competition of such beings.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in heavenly place"
We are in the Kali Yuga, the Black Aeon: the end time" of an unimaginably long time period (think "millions of years") known as a "kalpa". There is the "Sat Yuga", the Treta Yuga, the Dvapara Yuga, and last of all, the Kali Yuga, when the "demonic" element is in the ascendant.
There is no possibility of "redemption" or 'change" at this time; only the total destruction of the present order and the re-establishment of "righteousness" which is the commencement of a new cycle of Yugas (aeons).
The sole virtue of the Kali Yuga is that it is 'easier" in this Aeon to 'achieve God" than it is in any other Yuga. The fruits of ten thousand years of spiritual practice in the Sat Yuga can be achieved in a week or less in the Kali Yuga!
Other than that, all you will see around you is more and more crassness, greed, selfishness, debauchery , indulgence in and obsession with, bodily appetites, cruelty, bloodlust...all the things that make up the 'demonic"; the Kali Yuga is shorter than any other Aeon, because the demonic (asuras) always eventually destroys whatever they have power over; that, after all, is what "being demonic' is all about! Hence all the destruction, pollution and extinction you see around you.
Do not kid yourself; people are NOT 'getting better"; that is not possible in the Kali Yuga.. The sole hope is to "wake up" and reach out to the Divine, which is closer to us than at any other time, because it is "lonely"...those who do 'reach out' to God will find the way broad, clear and nearly empty! So, there is 'no waiting in a queue"
Shri Ramakrishna assures us that he will 'return to gather his devotees in two hundred years" and that "many will be liberated at this time. Those who are not liberated then will have to wait very long for it thereafter." Ramakrishna was born in 1836, so that would be 2036 that he was due to return... It must also be noted that 2036 is also the year that we are due for a rendezvous with the (very large) asteroid "Apophis". (Me, I refer to it as Asteroid "Kalki")
Ramakrishna is surely referring to the impending Sat Yuga, which lasts MILLIONS of years, not to speak of the other two which are also very long! So all those who "can't be bothered" with God will find themselves 'stuck" right here as "food for the moon" for a very literal ETERNITY.
I believe for many reasons that this particular "paradigm' of the Hindus is an accurate summary of "upcoming events" for humanity... Even CROWLEY said that the Aeon coming up after the current "Aeon of the Child" is the "Aeon of Ma'at"...and "Ma'at" is the SAME THING as the Hindu "Sat".
I would be a bit more hopeful than that. Perhaps the cycle of ages is not a wheel so much as a spiral.
But it is fair to say that a filtering must occur and that those who do not wish to step up will eventually find themselves in an existence that is better suited to their choice of path.
And of course eventually the rising tide will lift all humans so that by whatever path all will come to a natural fulfilment. (There may be some few exceptions if we can believe the Revelation of St John)
And maybe they are..I have seen nothing to indicate otherwise; in fact the Hindu paradigm is probably the most accurate description I have found of the cycling of the Aeons-other than that of Crowley's exposition in the introductory passages of Liber Al vel Legis, that is.
It is a fact that the Hindu legend of Kalki, the "White Horse Avatar", the tenth and final Avatar of Vishnu [for this kalpa, and whose debut marks the commencement of the "Ghora"(fearsome) Kali Yuga] oddly resembles the description of the "Faithful and True" in the Revelations of St. John.
