Are some of the genuine secrets of a MM still hidden in the ritual?
What might those be about?

I think the ritual, actions and words, tell us about 'how we work' as in how a clock or phone or fridge works.
The 'penalities' and signs are part of this manual.

I would suggest that the penalties are less important. Those indicate preconditions for access but do not provide the means of access.

They are penalties, therefore we should be able to use a bit of reverse engineering to get some useful clues to accessing.

What do you suggest?

Words, emotions (heart felt), intuition (gut feelings) are useful tools and guides.
When under control all of the above will see us through.
However when not under control (mastered) all can mortally wound us and/or relationships with those around us.
In relation to the above, if we take the positions and functions of the 7 chakras into consideration one could spend a whole life time working on the information and the work revealed.

Quite so. But are they the genuine secrets of a MM - or are they the skills needed by any spiritual seeker?

You're right... I would have to vote - skills.
However.. one thing leads to another. If we can relate, just for this exercise, the 7 Officers to the 7 Chakras... what happens when they are perfectly in sync?

Connecting the energies of the 7 Masons who make a Lodge perfect (7 Spirits before the throne of God) to the 7 human Chakras creates a valid linking of the Temple in the Heavens into the Temple of Man.
This is a part of the genuine secrets.
When this mapping is sufficiently operational, the MM is admitted to the Temple in the Heavens, under suitable supervision.

Perhaps there is not a lot of interest in the genuine secrets. That is a pity, as I have agreed to run an interactive semi-experiential session at a local lodge on this subject.

I wish I didn't live so far away... would be there in a flash.
It has been my experience that many masons have no expectations of Freemasonry apart from companionship and a little play acting.
Others might suspect that something lies hidden, but are unwilling to do the work they expect to be told everything. (Is a crossword exciting or educational if someone is at your shoulder telling you all the answers?)
There are even fewer who suspect that they can actually experience the work if they know how to go about it.
Any chance you can adapt the workshop so that it is suitable for this forum?

Any chance you can adapt the workshop so that it is suitable for this forum? I have sworn not to write, carve, engrave or otherwise them delineate Nevertheless I have suggested in various posts some areas may reward practical investigation. Those interested could start with my posts that deal with aspects of the Temple as it exists on Earth and the Temple as it exists in the Solar System.

Good ploy to get us to revisit old posts... I like it. Practical investigation... so little time to do that in our age. Home, work, family.. what time is left?

If you were to offer to instruct them in the basics of Hermetic Qabalah (the Golden Dawn system is perfectly adequate for the purpose) then the secrets would reveal themselves.
In fact, the Third Degree of Freemasonry is the necessary prelude to the study of the Qabalah.
Also, I am reliably informed that besides having undergone the Third Degree (if one is a Royal Arch Mason, a study of Qabalah will reveal the true understanding of this Degree, which is Qabalistic in nature.) all candidates for this study must be 36 years of age or over.
Why you ask? Because before that, one's identity, capacity for abstract thought, and life experience are not equal to the task of comprehending the more abtruse and subtle Qabalistic doctrines, or fully appreciating their relative importance to the Cosmos.
Plus the number 36 in and of itself is the cornerstone of the legend the Talmudic legend of the Lamed Vav- that was in its turn lifted from the ancient Egyptian everyman's worship of the God of Righteousness : Osiris, who had 36 forms.

The Qabalah is certainly a most valuable study for brethren who wish to be operative in transcendental Masonry. The Qabalah may however be subject to some limitations that are perhaps as much cultural as technical. E.g. the preference for straight lines.
The chapter in Holy Royal Arch is laid out in a close representation of the Tree of Life but that is likely to be a later amendment of the ritual which more naturally should be conducted within the hemispheric arch of the heavens.

The Rite actually takes place in the "bowels' of the Temple. A discovery is made there that the Sanhedrin requires to be brought to them. This "discovery" could very well have been a depiction of the Tree of Life. It is a fact that meditation on the glyph of the TOL will cause it to yield its secrets, in the absence of any other information, thus its discovery would certainly be a cause of concern for "the authorities", and that "they' would certainly not wish it to fall into the hands of the 'profane"!
In "The Hiram Key", Lomas and Knight presented the Holy Royal Arch as a re-enactment of the Templars having made their way into the vaults beneath the Jerusalem Temple, and I would tend to agree with this assessment.
While it is true that the Templars probably discovered "literal" treasure, I would certainly argue that 'figurative' treasure" in the form of an Ark, and of "magickal writings" was also discovered, hence the "re-enactment". I can tell you also that I have been reliably informed that there are (or were) MANY arks "out there" back in the day, not just one!
This information I got from someone (a Templar, in fact) who was part of a secret Middle Eastern expedition that actually retrieved TWO arks hidden away deep underground and which were 'stumbled upon", apparently due to an earthquake that revealed their hiding place... and one of which was still 'functional"! I am told it is now stashed away deep in a cavern somewhere in the continental US.

I read the HRA ritual as 4 components with the underground component being rather recent - about 12th century and the veils being most recent - perhaps 18th century.

Funny, isn't it?- how the "underground component' was added in the very century that the original nine Templars excavated through solid rock to gain access to the Temple vaults...
The fact that these nine were so determined to get there suggests that they KNEW what was there; nobody excavates 180 feet through solid rock and blazing temperatures, and all with the crudest of tools, merely on the 'off chance" that something 'might' be found!
My theory is that the story of the 'secret stash' was passed down from father to son after the priesthood of the Temple decamped for Gaul/France when they realized the Romans were coming to squash the Jewish uprising in 70 AD., in the same fashion as was the "Musgrave Ritual" (the Sherlock Holmes story). The priesthood then married into the French nobility, and with the Jewish penchant for large families, there would have been no let or hindrance to the passing down of this 'family secret" for the next thousand years!

That theory has been around longer than any of us.
