In the days of the two temples Priests (Kohanim) raised their hands in a peculiar fashion to bless Israel. Even now the descendants of the Priests raise their hands in a similar fashion to bless the congregation.
The configuration of the fingers is said to represent the letter Shin: the thumbs touching are the base of an (equilateral?) triangle and the two index fingers, touching, to sides of a triangle. (Wish I could draw here!) In the 3 sets of 2 joined fingers, we might see the three pillars of the Tree of Life.
Where else do we see this combination of fingers? It can be very much like the configuration the Catholic priest uses in blessing of the bread and wine. Do we see suggestions of these hands in Masonic ritual?
