An unreliable source has told me that many changes in rite and ritual have appeared in both the northern and southern jurisdictions of the AASR in the USA. Indeed it's been reported that George Washington has been introduced into the rituals to make the degrees more relevant. I don't know how relevant they would be in Australia. Have similar "improvements" been made in other parts of the world?
How much would these changes affect the inner work of the work? Just asking!
In Queensland the Grand Lodge has reverted to the ritual as it was in the 1920s.
Introducing more modern dramatic figures might be a bit tricky compared with non-historical characters that by design need have no significant character flaws.
A Bro. sent me this URL (www.valleyofscranton.org/degrees.htm which lists the degrees of the Northern Jurisdiction of AASR currently in use. Note that both the old and new names are given together with a summary of its message.
Many of the higher degrees not usually worked seem to me to be simple morality tales. If that is all they are then changing the characters will do little harm. If the degrees contain more significant matters then those may be lost.
An example that comes to mind is changing from Noah to Hiram for the raising. That may have occurred when the 3rd degree was introduced to London brethren about 1725.
