There is a right to root, hog, or die. A "right" is actually a legal abstraction, it isn't a grand plan anymore than blinking. No Deity or deity granted you or I rights.
If I destroy myself, well that is just stupid, and only my problem. Destroying others is against the social contract from which I derive the comforts and protections that I enjoy.
Why was that so? I have trouble finding good reason for that (unless we are planning to take over the world, in which case it might slow us down a tad )

Talk about syncronicity ... we were talking about David Bohm's Implicate/Explicate order theory elsewhere, which talks about individual entities (atoms) relying on memory to organise explicate (physical) reality.
On this thread we were talking about if we would be 'less a part of the one' should we lose a leg etc. Seems we would be still part of the one, but part of us 'less organised' in one area
Such disabilities were seen in the OT as the judgement of God.
Shame they don't exercise the same discrimination against those that are brainless
Where would the world be if Helen Kellar had not volunteered to help the blind.

There is a self though there is not a self that maintains.
How much of your body could be cut off before you cease entirely? The phantom limb phenomena are more concisely explained by an understanding of somatic mapping. The human brain is a fairly cool organ. In the brain there are areas that are recruited to deal with particular body parts. When that body part is removed the part of the brain that was mapped to it doesn't simply cease working or disappear. It gets recruited, at least in part, by other areas of the somatic map.
A couple of years ago I had oral surgery. Unfortunately there was some nerve damage and I can no longer feel part of my face. Interestingly enough when another part of my face is touched I "feel" my lip being tickled. That isn't magic, it is just a situation with nerves and somatic mapping.
