I was startled 2 or 3 times last night(in between sleep) by a very small voice(felt like someone was talking to me..while the volume control knob was set at low)..therefore i had to really focus to hear
During one of the interruptions , I actually got up to look around my room..and naturally saw nothing. I could only make out "Hello"
Not sure if this is the still small voice we often hear about...or some other entity..or my imagination

1 Kings 19 12 and after the shaking a fire: -- not in the fire is Jehovah; and after the fire a voice still small; 13 and it cometh to pass, at Elijah's hearing it, that he wrappeth his face in his robe, and goeth out, and standeth at the opening of the cave, and lo, unto him is a voice, and it saith, 'What -- to thee, here, Elijah?'
Here Elijah hears a voice that not only is outside him but also outside the cave. That Biblical reference is now used somewhat symbolically.
In modern usage the "still small voice" refers to a small "voice" that may be "heard" when the human is still mentally and emotionally. It can be said to be "heard" in the heart.
There are of course other voices that may be heard. Firstly there are: - human technology used for projecting sound to appear at a point nearby - human technology for producing voices within the head.
In this case I see no trace of either and indeed no sign of a human taking an interest in you at that time.
So next we consider clairaudience www.psychic.com.au/psychic-clairaudience.htm This of course is not limited to voices and may include complex music - even equivalent to Beethoven's 9th.
Clairaudience can include:
- voice communications from entities internal to the human's ecology - voice communications from external lesser entities - voice communications from external superior entities.
Clairaudience, can be perceived in the ear or in the mind. In this case from your description I would suppose that you heard the voice in the ear.
This probably excludes internal entities.
From the nature of the reported communication (hello) we may deduce that the entity is not particularly superior.
In this case it rather seems to me to be what used to be called a familiar spirit. Humans tend to have (collect or be allocated) a small entourage of nature spirits that assist the human. Humans of lesser development get allocated entities that are similarly developed and hence of marginal use.
I suspect that one of your entourage is making contact with you.
You might like to meditate for while and then place your focus in your heart (as a safe guard) then call the being that spoke to you and see what happens and how it feels. If you become uncertain then you may wish to dismiss it.
I recall once long ago I was very deep in meditation and God spoke to me. It was immediately clear who it was.
When I came out of meditation I could not remember what God said. I suppose He allowed for that. (He did seem to be a he)

Here is an excerpt from one: "i have a degree in math. I have done advanced post graduate mathematics, and the voice would often outperform me and be able to help me solve things i ordinarily couldnt do. How is this possible, that i could self generate a voice that outperforms me in math?"

When I was around 12 years of age, I heard a voice saying “Do it; don't do it” while I was on the street. I also had what I would now identify as a panic attack. No voices since.
However, I do hear music often, coming from my imagination. I may have to start it off with a couple bars, using the will, and then the music takes off on it own. I only wish that I could transcribe it. The sound isn't that inventive, but it can entertain me for long periods of time. Trying to “channel” large works like those of Mahler or Wagner is difficult, but piano pieces are very easy to handle.
The URL to the Voices forum fascinated me. The contributors seemed rather “normal” for the most part, except for the evident paranoia in some cases. Having read some of the accounts, it's difficult to dismiss all of them as simply psychotic.
It seems to me that the small percentage of cases that cannot be explained in the usual psychiatric manner needs much closer examination. Are these voices created by external entities? Can they be prevented from taking over the minds of hapless victims? It would seem that these voices differ greatly from those still small voice in other posts.
> I do hear music often, coming from my imagination
Years ago I used to wake up listening to music - even similar to Beethoven's Choral 9th.
>The sound isn't that inventive,.... piano pieces are very easy to handle
Quite a number of the great composers have entities that work with them. Perhaps the best entities go to the best composers.
>small percentage of cases that cannot be explained in the usual psychiatric manner needs much closer examination
There are electronic technologies that produce voices in the head. There is also clairaudience on various subplanes, and like most psychic faculties it can be amplified by outside entities temporarily supplying suitable sub-plane substance.
>Can they be prevented from taking over the minds of hapless victims?
Where the voices are heard clairaudiently, it is possible to lift one's consciousness above the subplane on which the voice is being manifested. In its simplest form this means putting attention to something more positive or more profound than that source.
