The practice of crowns for royalty seems to be very old.
Long ago I was shown a vision of some functional crowns inside a hollow hill. The crowns provided telepathic contact to and from the monarch so that when wearing the technological device s/he was considered to be relaying the commands of the god owning that territory.
The devices had electrical contacts that rested on the forehead. There was both audio and telepathic transmission from the device and telepathic reception. Thus the god could hear what was happening in the room and instruct the ruler
The crowns I saw had an outer layer of gold that concealed their technical structure. They were light weight with nearly vertical antenna prongs.

This is a bit fancy but close to what I saw
I saw something similar on Earth but could have been connected further. A type of method was being developed for creating civilizations in all the kingdoms. Earth was divided almost continent to continent. A collective was seeking out these kingdoms to have them join a progressive process for creating and managing great metropolises.
Once the leader of the kingdom was cleared (initates were tested), they would receive one of these crowns. Just as you described Paul.
At some point something started going wrong.. the "God message" was being corrupted or became tainted somehow. Perhaps clashing ideologies through the now shared messages, I'm not sure. But it became an issue. Great power was held in the people who bore the crown. They became dark, evil, and violent.. along with the great power.. it wasn't pretty to say the least.
I recall they were collected and I think placed in the hollow you described. The tree kept people from getting into the hollow.
Exodus 32 19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. 20 And he took the calf the people had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water and made the Israelites drink it.
21 He said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you led them into such great sin?”
22 “Do not be angry, my lord,” Aaron answered. “You know how prone these people are to evil. 23 They said to me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.’ 24 So I told them, ‘Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.’ Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!”
I guess I'll try sifting...
Are you saying these crowns are similar to the golden calf metaphorically?
I felt I should clarify this story about the crowns since it only exists in peices..
So there were civilizations separated into areas they referred to as kingdoms. This was the basic understanding of their life. More advanced civilizations had already connected to the eternal source and worked together to bring others into it. They saw it as Earth and not split up other than people's understanding of it.
It was all rough terrain mentally to navigate so embassadors were sent to the under developed ones to help them "connect" in a direction of safety for all involved. The destination ofcourse being harmony.
I think the majority of issues were translation and ways of life. Once the connection began it spread really quickly in their numbers. Basically conveying a thought in a way that made sense to them.
I was projecting maybe only a couple weeks more on an area I had been working with, when someone from headquarters showed up with a crown.
The "leader" was with me when it was presented. He had been dealing with issues following the logic of the given parameters (sanctity of life, equality, etc..). When he heard what the crown did I literally saw all of our work fly out of his head. Because now he knew he didn't need to do it to learn it (atleast thats what he took out of it). An easy way out. Even though this was not the case and I explained it would be the same process with me it would be with the crown, he thought it would just "give him the answers". As I explained earlier it only works in tandem with consciousness, you cannot give it control. This was the suspected cause of the "things going wrong", however I think the technology(AI?) in the crown may also had something to do with it.
It was explained to me the new process was.. Since the population has the connection the crown was no longer needed for the effect so was retrieved for the next one. So once finished everyone in the kingdom evolved to understand they were a part of Earth from the leader, then learning about space came next. The biggest change was they could communicate in the eternal source along with everyone else who has done so. I didn't want to use the crown being so close to success, but I had to present my case to the council and currently my orders were to give the crown to the leader. Denying the order would be seen as treason.
So my first out of the gate impression of the crown was how absolutely horrible of an idea it was. Although I couldn't act on that until the council approved it.
I had to go back and back I whent, no choice in the matter. I presented my case offered my first impressions and was agreed they had potential for making things worse.
I whent back to the area I had been working with and the leader now dawning the crown had done unspeakable horrors to his people. None were left alive, but far worse then just a slaughter. I don't like being around these thoughts..
I couldn't handle it then either. The things he had done to the people I had grown to love. It broke me in horrible ways. I didn't understand it wasn't him. I didn't understand the crown had lead him down this path out of his control. I blamed him and held him ultimately accountable on the spot.. a hasty mistake. The crown simply can be removed to cease connection. They had great power, but limited in the eternal scope. Although I don't think he could have gone on knowing what the crown made him do to his people. It may have been mercy..
This problem of guilt became overwhelming to everyone. What was being done to people, and knowledge the crown bearer had to live with of their actions. Our knowledge of creating it, it was just all too much.
We agreed they needed to be out of physical contact and the tree was the only one strong enough to handle protecting that.
I recall now once they were all sealed away the tree connected to the crowns. It was as a mere type of kinship as the tree was ultimately lonely. A hard life of protective solitude and only seeing mostly agressors. It wanted companionship but I was worried about the crowns for obvious reasons.
There was issues, I knew because it suddenly stopped treating me as a friend. Out of the blue, almost mid conversation.
At this juncture makes me think AI was involved. The tree was working as a medium between me and the crowns. Finding a balance of our two wills. It wasn't too hard to achieve for myself but took much debate for the larger "everyone/equal" aspects.
I saw in the tree's heart he found the balance of understanding, and knew it was finally in good company.
Sadly I left the tree to continue work here, but atleast I could in good conscience. We didn't say goodbye.. just, I'll see you again at the end. It was too painfull for us to think of the separation.
