> go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land,
By which we know that the god of the Israelites was one of many gods - hence not the creator of the universe.
Deuteronomy 32
"When the Most High gave to the nations When He separated the children of men, He set the borders of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel. 9For the portion of the LORD is His people, Jacob the lot of His inheritance."
Here we see that the Most High was/is superior to the Lord of Israel - allocating to him only the people of Jacob
And the Most High was not too important either, since here he was allocating humans to various of his underlings. According to Sumerian literature the Most High of the time had only recently overthrown the previous Most High in a palace coup.
