It is curious how much effort goes into apparently trivial diseases. Coronavirus with a fatality rate around 2% has killed several hundred. Bird flu killed some hundreds globally, SARS managed 1000, and swine flu perhaps 10 000. Meanwhile annual road deaths are well over 1 million globally.
The 1918 flu pandemic killed 100 million in those countries that kept records and the black death in Europe in the Middle Ages had 100% mortality rate reducing the population by half.
So why all the effort for some minor outbreaks? Is it just politicians wanting to exert power, pharmaceutical industry selling allegedly useful products and media players selling ad time?
The amount of effort that goes into these minor outbreaks and the economic loss resulting from quarantining regions are such that I wonder if there is another agenda.
For example, what if the 1918 flu was a managed event? Certainly with the black death there are accounts of a black mist that occurred in some towns about 2 hours before the first cases. The accounts include figures in black walking with wands that made a hissing/spraying noise producing the black mist - hence the grim reaper legend.
Are governments now on high alert for biological attack?
China built new hospitals in a couple of weeks but they are largely empty. Meanwhile the Chinese army (largest in the world) has not deployed any field hospitals.
Incompetence or perhaps preparation for an attack that has not occurred (yet)?
