Electricity follows the line of least resistance. Therefore it looks like there was a non-visible object with a conductive surface that attracted the lightning that then looped around it
happened around my area last night 9pm...all the lights flickered for a good 6 seconds the power went out on all electronic devices people who live close to the scene reported phone batterys dropping to 1% funny part is the circuit didnt break nobody i spoke to circuits broke... power dimmed i felt a strange buzz in my body like when electricity surges then it went away...the supposed cause was a busted transformer ...yet no reported power outage....sky was lit up from yonkers to jersey for over 5 minuets..
The blue color is a bit odd. It is looks a bit too blue to be just cupric chloride, but it just might be a vaporized transformer. Electrical overload would not normally produce so much light.
I seem to recall in the 1990s there was a blackout across North America that supposedly was caused by ufos taking power out of the grid. Apparently that was quite common then for ufos to seem to recharge from transmission lines.

Looks fairly phenomenal. I don't know whether people see lightning like that all that often.
