I have heard that human hair carries powers and holds certain forces that protects us from darker forces. Consider the biblical story of Samson and the Philistines. Samson shaved his hair and his great strength left him. It was his hair that gave him the power that he had until he lost it. One would ask why this was.

So why do almost all people cut their hair? Does none of them notice a loss of power?
I guess that's a good point, but many people may not be aware of the powers that hair holds. It's something built into culture that's most likely become lost over time. Fashion and consumer trends take over in the developed world.

You lost me at the word supposed. It implies conjecture without agreement. Who supposes? Why should I consider their opinion valid. Am I expected to believe that all the varieties of primates evolved from a single ancestral DNA strain?
I seems much more logical to me that primates evolved in a parallel rather than a linear fashion. Whichever viewpoint one takes your question about hair is still valid. I would offer however that the two viewpoints may lead to different answers to your question.

I seem to recall Blavatsky maintaining that apes were descended from humans. But that is only background to the question of why humans grow such very long head hair when that has no apparent function.
I believe that in the past certain groups of people, and maybe tribal groups, were not allowed to cut their hair at any time in their lives. There must have been a reason for this. I think that the reason was linked to something religious or spiritual.

Samson apparently thought so, but I rather think that biblical accounts were carefully edited for theological and political reasons, so I do not know that his hair was actually the center of the story.
“When the hair on your head is allowed to attain its full, mature length, then phosphorous, calcium, and vitamin D are all produced, and enter the lymphatic fluid, and eventually the spinal fluid through the two ducts on the top of the brain. This ionic change creates more efficient memory and leads to greater physical energy, improved stamina, and patience.”
Yogi Bhajan explained that if you choose to cut your hair, you not only lose this extra energy and nourishment, but your body must then provide a great amount of vital energy and nutrients to continually re-grow the missing hair.
In addition, hairs are the antennas that gather and channel the sun energy or prana to the frontal lobes, the part of the brain you use for meditation and visualization. These antennas act as conduits to bring you greater quantities of subtle, cosmic energy. It takes approximately three years from the last time your hair was cut for new antennas to form at the tips of the hair.

I didn't know that! Hmm. Glad I tuned into this thread.
I think there's quite a lot in what you've stated above. In totally natural circumstances humans shouldn't cut their hair as it impedes their spiritual development up to a point.

I was reading that in WW2 the US Army was very keen to recruit native Americans for their tracking abilities. Being methodical they tested the Indians and recruited the best trackers.
But once in the army those Indians lost their abilities. Eventually the Army discovered that the Indians needed their long uncut hair in order to be good trackers - able to detect an enemy even in the absence of any sound or sight.
