Exodus 33 20 He saith also, 'Thou art unable to see My face, for man doth not see Me, and live;' .......and spread out My hands over thee, until My passing by, and I have turned aside My hands, and thou hast seen My back parts, and My face is not seen.'
Thus Moses is permitted to see the back of God but not his face.

Perhaps the God of the Old Testament didn't want Moses to see exactly who he really was. The Cathars never accepted him as the True God in any event, and they didn't accept the Old Testament. When one reads it one can understand why. Personally I side with the Cathars, and those who know me well know why.
Presumably Abraham was permitted to see the god of his fathers when he was told to prepare his son for a sacrifice.
And Jacob saw god face to face although he thought it was a man
Genesis 32:24-30 King James Version (KJV)
24And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. ...... ... 30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."
From this last we might conclude that the god of the OT looks like a man and is not very strong.
Still I wonder why Abraham and Jacob saw god face to face but Moses was not permitted.
Could there be more than one god? Certainly Abraham needed to be told which god he had met.
Genesis 1:26 King James Version And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness...
Who does US and OUR belong to?
Elohim.
They say Japan was made by a sword. They say the old gods dipped a coral blade into the ocean, and when they pulled it out four perfect drops fell back into the sea, and those drops became the islands of Japan. I say, Japan was made by a handful of brave men. Warriors, willing to give their lives for what seems to have become a forgotten word: honor. -The Last Samurai
Of course, we are assuming here that the OT is actually a true account. As one of the "Other People," I don't think so.

It is clear to me that the OT has been edited for theological and political purposes by various parties.
Nevertheless, some of the characters (human and gods) can apparently be found both in the OT and in the writings of other Middle Eastern peoples.
Further, I do not know of any native traditions that do not ascribe much of their establishment, knowledge and technology to outsiders variously called sky gods, heros and elder brethren.
This is a remarkable and uniform humility quite foreign to modern rationalists.

This simply shows a commonality in the makeup of human beings worldwide. Of course we're going to have similar stories. This doesn't mean that fish-aliens came down, manipulated our DNA and told us how to build pyramids.

As a one time Cathar I agree with Henka in questioning the validity of the O/T. Nonetheless, when one looks at the worldwide similarity concerning origins among ancient traditions, I think it really does appear, not necessarily that fish or reptilians came down from another planet and manipulated out DNA, but that someone, or some folk came from somewhere and set themselves, or himself up as God, fooling a greaat many people in the process.
Have you read Laurence Gardner on the subject Henka, particularly the Genesis of the Grail Kings, The Realm of the Ring Lords, and the Magdalene Legacy? They make some very convincing, and scholarly points regarding origins.

Most of the gods of ancient times no longer appear in public. Some of the ancient gods were immortal aliens, and some were long lived humans and aliens from hidden/subterranean colonies.
Some of the alien gods have gone from Earth - defeated in the wars in the heavens, or home to protect inheritances, or just died. Alexander went to Babylon to be touched by the hand of Marduk - but Marduk had died and his body was there preserved in oil.
Currently resident gods tend to keep their heads down now that Earth humans are pretty lethal to immortals.
Now I know that Yahweh is greater than all the other Elohim. (Exodus 18:11)
Quite a lot of humans still follow Jehovah/Jah/Jahweh. Is he still here on Earth? He needed a lot of food and lived in a tent for a while before leaving his consort behind.
What sort of experiment could test for the continued presence of a favorite god?

I think hiding from the expectations until those majorly change. As you said.. lethal.
