Then a Mason came forth and said, Speak to us of houses And he answered and said: Build of your imaginings a bower in the wilderness ere you build a house within the city walls. For even as you have home-comings in your twilight, so has the wanderer in you, the ever distant and alone. Your house is your larger body. It grows in the sun and sleeps in the stillness of the night; and it is not dreamless. Does not your house dream? And dreaming, leave the city for the grove or hill-top?
Would that I could gather your houses into my hand, and like a sower scatter them in forest and meadow. Would the valleys were your street, and the green paths your alleys, that you might seek one another through vineyards, and come with the fragrance of the earth in your garments. But these things are not yet to be. In their fear your forefathers gathered you too near together. And that fear shall endure a little longer. A little longer shall your city walls separate your hearths from your fields.
... too cerebral for me. Can you explain what you mean by that?
Art for me is something that 'speaks' to a part of me. Like a tuning fork, it evokes an harmonic response.
Truth, I imagine does the same thing. Ever notice how often an agnostic will bring up the subject of God, even if to continually decry His/It's Existence.

Men and women produce works everyday; but little rises to the level of art. What we remember are those pieces that take us out of the comfortable trappings. When most paintings mimicked photography, we had the impressionists and cubists to bring the lie of the forgettable stuff into sharp focus. New sounds and lyrics show up marketed music to be little more meaningful than muzak. I prefer pieces that jar me into discord rather than that which puts me to sleep.
Personal preference? Perhaps. But I find this requisite distinction to clearly separate great works from the mundane.
I recall an art forger who sold his forgeries through Sotheby's for many years without detection.
It seemed that the experts could not tell real art from imitation.
The forger was amazed that no one detected his forgeries. He said that whenever he viewed genuine work by a master, his hair stood on end, but that he did not get any physiological response when he looked at his own forgeries.
This suggests that genuine art is perceived biologically.
Thanks for expanding on that torence, can see where you are coming from.
Are the images that we employ for our candidates art?
For a thing to be Art, it must bring the Lie into sharp focus.
In the Art world they hold Art appreciation classes, I guess you could view a lodge working in the same light. As the consciousness expands the genius is recognised, the student responds (biologically as Paul suggests?)

Even mathematicians see beauty in equations. Part of the assessment of the truth of an equation is that it must be 'beautiful". What a beautiful" mathematical equation looks like, and what the criteria are, I have no idea. but I DO like the notion!
As for perceiving truth "biologically", our very innards contain their VERY OWN version of a "nervous system" with the Solar Plexus as the "brain". The notion of "gut feeling" has thus been proven to exist in fact and not just in fancy! So, if it is possible that we are biologically attuned to "beauty", then there is NO REASON why the body's own level of "awareness" cannot perceive it AS WELL.

An improper set of equations can cause pain to the entity that they are intended to describe. In the case I experienced, it was a model of a state economy that was causing pain to the gestalt of the state
This relates to Pythagoras' proposition that numbers are alive.

Woohoo.. i knew it!

I assume its linked to the senses (including the inner eye) via the brain?
