Greetings from Earth. I know my home, however I am unable to speak it.
Some things:
The first rule of long distance space travel is to take care of your needs first.
If you are near-starved but are unaware, (Long distance space travel will numb you to your basic needs) you will do your guests no favors by dying mid-flight and leaving them with a vessel they are unable to fully man and maintain. It will go nowhere for relations between your peoples.
Learn BSL (Basic Space Language) similar to Braille. It will assist you if your pilot is unable to man their ship. There is also a visual space language for those who can perceive light.
Learn maintenance. If realigning reactor resonators is boring to you: Get over it. It may save your life.
Suicidal ideation isn't a bad thing. Just a symptom to rearrange your way of life. Hint: Arranging adverse agendas isn't bad. It may save your life. (You just don't want to do it.)
Have your list of do and do not wants handy for any visitors, including hostiles. Hostiles may take it into account, and they also may not. But it is better to give them boundaries first. If they toss it on the ground it usually means they will not take it into account, however, a friendly among the hostiles may pick it up (This is law) and accommodate you privately. (You will be grateful for it)
Treat your guests like family and loved ones, as much as you are able. They may appreciate it, and you may make friends with a civilization that can benefit you (or not. Not all civilizations can benefit you... However, a tribal planet with beautiful women (my preference...) may not be able to calibrate your long distance sensors, but they can provide you with an evenings entertainment... And, as some cultures have discovered, a powerful and perfectly aligned ship take a back seat to a pleasurable evening...... Consider this....)
Many cultures will consider your heritage first, and experience second, however, one thing valued across all societies is your hours aboard your vessel. It may save your life in the event of a hostile situation (You are valuable)
This can also help in preserving your self-life on long missions where lack of stimulation can set in.
Think of your hours.
Conversely, the more hours you have, the more jaded you will become. Many aliens you meet will be utterly hostile and unreasonable, but within their core, they are friendly, caring, and loving.
Act accordingly. You may be one of the angry ones one day, and need gentleness from a friendly alien race in return. (They will not harm you... Though they could...)
After kissing, we made love for [many days] until we were sick fo one another... Being sick of one can be quite literal, as the bacteria may not be compatible.
This is not an offensive situation, as your lover should have compassion for your health [this is also law...])
Some travelers are not homosexual, bisexual, or another orientation outside of strict mating with their own kind (gender considered...)
For more advanced races:
Biological compatibility data will be collected and broadcasted.
There is a universal, friendly space greeting shown to most travelers (outside of hostile races who do not wish for contact. Respect their rules. Give them the [required] berth. Unless you desire conflict, in which case, your home world may or may not be held accountable [be careful. you may be the only representation of your people they will ever know. The general rule: Be friendly! Kind! Know the rules! If you do not know, request a ruleset be sent: Adhere to it. If not possible, for example, they are requesting a long way around their space, ask for safe travels to your destination but with a quicker route. Respect what they say. Some have died, far from their destinations, avoiding conflict and bad names to their people. Space travel is not always easy, and may require your life, before you reach your destination.]
Outside of your needs, your priority should be your basic communication equipment. If your propulsion fails, you will be of no use while others are hailing you, but you cannot hear them.
Watch out for thieves. More than a few friendly aliens will "take" things from you. Some, right in front of you. Keep your valuables, tools, and equipment neatly stowed at all times. They may take loose items, but almost no aliens will try to open things without your permission. If they do, simply request they do not interact with your vessel at all. If they violate these rules, request it firmly. If they continue to violate these rules, you may need to return them to their vessel with force. If they do not comply, you may find yourself in a life and death situation.
Act accordingly, keeping your interests in mind (Some aliens are aggressive, and will take you forcing them back to their vessel as an act of war. You may, or may not wish to broadcast a message of peace to them after expelling them, as a means of saying, "this is not personal. I am having a difficult time, emotionally." You will be amazed, at how this will go to smooth things out for you [and your people.])
Try not to be a dick. (Rude, uncaring, unempathic, cruel...) You may be tempted to take advantage of some aliens kindness... Especially weaker beings who do not have your capabilities... But keep in mind, they are people too... The golden rule applies here: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Further: Some of the softer species have powerful allies. Treat every species as if they are superior to yourself.
Because they may be. (Even though it is not obvious.) Also, keep in mind, a softer alien race may welcome you, but their benefactors may take offense at your gestures. Follow the basic rules of interaction.
Consent forms may or may not be honored, however, unless the alien race has defined consent rules, it is always best to use forms of consent for any activity outside of basic interaction.
Keep in mind: Translating their language may take a lifetime. They will not be aware, or care, that you are growing old.
Act accordingly.
(Alright, what's the word for sex? Anyone desirous?) Get to the point. Move on if things are not working out for you. Do not prolong an already strenuous situation. Is your vessel calling to you?
Keep in mind, if you find yourself in a sexual situation with a female (queen) xenomorph, when she is ovulating, her vaginal canal is filled with flesh eating acid. Not all sexual unions are beneficial, however, having sex with her outside of her ovulation cycle is a beautiful bonding time with her. One must be careful.
It is best to test before sex. If you find a highly compatible people, and your mission is not critical, you may wish to live with them, if it is acceptable to them. Determine your welcome characteristics before falling in love. You do not wish to be with a beautiful alien woman only to find out you are only welcome for a year.
Sex: The universal language of the cosmos. Do I need to say more? Each individual has a beautiful set of reproductive organs (usually. Not always.) that vary in size, shape, scent, color, and temperature. When meeting a fellow traveler who is desirous of experimenting with you, it is best to try your utmost to please them, even if the activity is not pleasurable. Alternatively, if an activity is injurious, always, always, always voice your malfeasance. You may lose a friend and lover forever, but it is better than hating them.
Be aware: The aliens with the biggest guns are almost always the friendliest. Do not let an intimidating ship frighten you.
Alternatively, an intimidating vessel may destroy you for fun.
The choice is yours. (Greeting message is handy, here.)
Nearly all, but the most hostile aliens will have basic communicators operating at the established frequency (832 MHz?) If a vessel is not responding, it is not always because they are hostile. It may be because the captain has chosen death. This is quite common. You may choose to do what you will with their vessel. My personal dictate, is, when emotionally possible, to hold a last rights for their body. Be aware their decay may propose health hazards that can destroy an entire people. Even aboard a liveable vessel, in this situation, it is best to wear your space suit, and decontaminate it later. They may be carrying a weaponized virus not meant for you, but that will still kill you.
When encountering a known hostile race: Be aware the individual may wish you no harm. In my experience, it is best not to fire weapons first, especially if their vessel is vastly superior, but to sail quietly by, while broadcasting (at less than the advertised wattage) your message of peace. Though their race is feared and formidable... you may just make a friend within their people. This is always beneficial, as if you are captured by their people, your friend may be leverage to release you. Get to know them, if you are fortunate enough to board their vessel on peaceful terms, and accommodate them as best you can. A genuine attitude of acceptance, and even love, can go a long way.
Honor their traditions.
Part with sadness.
Give a gift if you are able. For them, sometimes a bolt, of which you have many, and are not considered valuable, can be the most treasured thing they have ever received... Though, their vessel is infinitely more powerful and valuable than theirs... It is the meaning behind the gift thsat matters, and often, not the gift itself.
You will find most races either just want to be left alone, or want to be accepted and loved as they are. Some times, the most offensive races, once you are used ot them, can be the most beautiful.
If you are proud of your vessel, include a statement of pride, and tenderness with your broadcast of peace: Because some races will show you their vessel, which will outclass yours, and may make you feel inferior.
Some races share their technology freely, even their advanced technology: Because they desire uniformity and peace across the cosmos. These people should be respected, and honored. (Not that others should not.)
Aboard your vessel:
It is good to have a companion.
Be aware, you are going to have sex with this companion, most of the time. Boredom, loneliness, and desire set in after a time, for most people (not all). Some aliens do not require sex, others want it all the time (like humans). Accommodate them as you are able. It will do you good to be in good with them.
For crews: If you see someone you like, tell them. There will probably be a manifest of desires, and be aware, you may enter into their chambers while they are being sexual with another. Accept it. Sex alleviates boredom, and affirms your being. In space, sometimes, sex is all you have, even if it is with a smaller feline. (Choose a good long term partner, if possible.)
Before entering into long term space travel (Outside of the visual spectrum) be aware, deep psychological testing must be done. An accurate past assessment, lie detector, testing with a canine individual, empathic and spiritual testing, must all be done beforehand. Be aware: Even the strongest individuals can lose themselves in space travel. Experienced individuals are the most prized.
Also be aware: You can bring hostile aliens back to your planet. This can result in annihilation. Space travel is inherently dangerous. However, many hostile races respect the audacity, but will still fuck your planet.

If welcoming fellow travelers aboard your vessel, be aware (This is my experience. I will recount it for you: I allowed a reptilian fellow aboard my vessel. I read his manifest: It said he could be forceful. If I was not willing to be forced upon, I would have declined his request to board my vessel- but with a sister message that said, I wished him well, and regretted we were not compatible at that time. A kind way to say, not interested [at this time. It may change in the future.] I allowed him aboard my vessel, and showed him around. One must act as impartial as they are able- but if you are tired, you are tired, and say so. By bringing a visitor aboard your ship, remember: You are essentially surrendering yourself [and your vessel] to them [if they are stronger and desire it. Is it worth it? You must ascertain... Sometimes breaking the loneliness is worth having an aggressive being aboard your vessel. Further: You may fall in love with them, which is a whole new problem, however, it can also stave the boredom off.] This certain individual, of whom I am fond, stuck his hand down my pants, and inserted a finger into my anus. He has claws, but was gentle- yet also somewhat forceful about it. Had it of been painful, I would have cried, "OW". Not all creatures can say "ouCH", hence the "OW", and a tensing up of the body letting him know it was unacceptable [if it was unacceptable, why did you invite him aboard? There are rules to interaction. You can choose to ascertain the beings, and say "no" to sex. Generally, it is a good idea to hazard a yes.] I turned to face him, and looked into his eyes, and with a smile, after having read his biography [kissing is welcome with this particular individual...] I kissed him, and tasted his tongue. It was not pleasant. However, one may grow used to it, and choose to become a lover of this individual... Aliens are about acquired tastes... If one cannot adjust to an attribute of a particular alien, one must tell the alien... Be honest, as much as does not offend the being.
(Did I mention his vessel was vastly superior to my own? And he was a potentially aggressive species... Perhaps I did not. Regardless... I enjoyed my time with him. Thoroughly.)
After kissing, we made love for [many days] until we were sick fo one another... Being sick of one can be quite literal, as the bacteria may not be compatible.
This is not an offensive situation, as your lover should have compassion for your health [this is also law...])

This is where the space accords come into play: The federation is a powerful alliance that can be called upon for help.
Some hostile alien races will save your ass just because they like to fight. Welcome them with open arms: If one takes a liking to you and you are the same gender, perhaps an exploration of your sexuality is in order. Perhaps an extended exploration of gender norms is also on the menu.
Keep in mind, if you fall in love with him, or her, you may find yourself aboard their warcraft vessel. Think of the Klingons...
Well. Your nights will NOT be lonely.
The longer you are in space, the longer you get to question your sexuality. It is not necessarily a bad thing. Especially if you meet a kind, loving individual who is not your gender, and they are desirous of you. Sometimes, same-sex unions can be the bonds that unite worlds. However, if the idea is deeply offensive to you, voice your concerns (and rejection). There is little to no use in a union you hate.
Keep in mind: When you say goodbye to a fellow traveler, or a world, it will most likely be forever. They will only ever exist within you as a memory, and even then: will be lost to time. This is why, unless your mission is critical, and lives depend on it, it is acceptable to stay with a friendly race you align with. For example: If you are merely exploring... And you find a race of people with warm women... And a woman falls in love with you (And your technology) it is often best to remain with her. Perhaps, even dying on their world, as a guest... Multiple tests must be done so you do not accidentally wipe them out of existence... Do your best. It is all you can do.
If a friendly world is nearby, and you are able to propel yourself to it, to travel their lands later, note it, mark it, and accomplish your mission. Then, return to it when you are ready.
Abusive sex: If you agreed into this union, and you are aboard their vessel: Get used to it. You may get used to it and require it to be satisfied. Try,. not to take liberties about it as being used to it and enjoying it may not make you more valuable.
Take what you can get.
Alcohol: Many species have fermented drinks. Use them wisely. Getting drunk and trying to fuck their king might not be the best course of action for you (socially).

It is usually best to announce that you are an unlearned (unschooled) alien for their culture, if they are not broadcasting an agenda. Tell them you may use offensive gestures, words, and body language they are not used to. And, to have compassion. If, they reject you and tell you to leave them alone: Unless you are on a conquest: Leave them alone. Scan as much as you are able, log it, broadcast it if you are able, and leave them alone. Send them warm regards when leaving, and then leave. You may never hear from them again.
Keep in mind: Aliens may be clingy. Space travels makes one lonely. You may find yourself with an overly affectionate, desperate alien who wants to be in your space and touching you at all times. Make boundaries.
Some-times, the overly lonely ones make the best lovers. Some times, they also become enemies. Not all offensible aliens are taken seriously by their home worlds.

Prudence is key, here.
And yes, I enjoyed the reptilian male who made love to me in my quarters. If he ever chose to come to earth, and desired to be my mate here, if I had no other entanglements, I would welcome him into my bedroom. He is a beautiful being, with beautiful eyes, a beautiful member, whom I care for to this day.
Be aware, not to welcome an alien race to your home world... As many assume it means the ENTIRE homeworld. Saying, "You are only welcome in my bedroom" versus, "You are welcome to everything!" is easier than trying to reclaim your planet from a superior force (you gave it over to.) If I said to my lover and sexual partner, "You are welcome to it all" they may interpret is as saying, "You may have my home world" in which case, they do not have consent (but my own) and may take liberties, because they are powerful and can easily take this planet as one of their own. However, if I limit their access to my bedroom, I get a warm, and highly skilled lover in my bedroom, and the rest of the planet can go on as it desires... Just stay away from my bedroom unless you want to hear the sounds of pleasure. This also applies to starships... Do not go where you are not welcome.
If you hate your home world, do not venture into space (For our sakes... [Those who want to live and be free...])
One must value their home world above themselves to be worthy of space travel.
Enslavement can be worse than death. If your captors give you any pleasurable activities, value it. Obey their commands. Do not resist. There are things worse than death if you do not obey. I have been aboard (I do not wish this again) an alien vessel as a slave... If they give you a woman to love (Or a male) love them to the utmost, but be aware, you may never see them again, or you may also see them frequently. Be grateful. Do not be surprised if they are removed from your life and never seen again. Hence, love them to the utmost. It is better to have loved them, and loved every aspect of who they are, and go to the grave lonely without them, than to desire to love their scent more, and die never seeing them again.
Get over it.
Insanity is the norm. People will lose their minds. This is why the lockdown protocol is used by two members of the crew, or, to a more minimal degree, just one member. They may try to sabotage your vessel, and blow it up. Locking down the reactor and life support system, and retaining food and water are key.
Keep in mind, if food and water are contaminated, they will need to be jettisoned. So, they are able to be expelled on a whim. It is good to have the most sane member of threw responsible.
It could be the janitor.
Keep this in mind.

AI: It is good to have a mother to take care of you. She will alert you to caloric needs, sexual interests, warnings of a race she is familiar with (That you are not), the ships status, breeding timescales, and many other things.
Until we get AI ready, we are not equipped for long term space travel.
In my opinion, every member of the crew should be versed in basic maintenance, and most in advanced maintenance, in case they find themselves alone, on the mission. Sex should not be a factor, outside of brute force, and even then, the sexes can be evened out in exercise (I have seen women perform as men)
Be aware: There is a basic set of space exploration tools common to most races within the federation. If your air scrubbers do not work the same as the federations: Ditch yours and choose theirs.
This is due to: If a friendly (or even hostile. Hence, sex is so important. If a hostile alien boards your ship with repair equipment, his price could be some time in your chambers, alone... Would you rather make love to him, and experience pleasures you have never even heard of... Or suffocate slowly to death over three years... My choice is pleasure, to be honest...) alien wants to assist you with repairs, their equipment will most likely be federation standard, and will prolong your existence.
You do not always have to be bisexual, many aliens are strictly heterosexual, however, in my opinion, they are (possibly) missing out, or, perhaps, they are not missing out at all, and know exactly what they are doing.
If an alien turns their head up and to the side, you are doing something offensive to them. Stop. Back off. Offer "Gentle hands" (Outstretched hands and a submissive nature..)

Apologize, correct your behavior, and move on.
Some aliens will be offended and leave, others will be offended, and remain. Determine which your guests are... And accommodate them.
If a crewmate is extending undesirable behavior, correct them, especially in front of a guest. Space travel can make you go insane. This is why in the movies, starships have extremely large crews as an extended tribe. I could go into detail but perhaps i should not... But, being lonely on a starship is only because you want to be, or are very unusual in your interests.
Just like the tribe!

As I said, if you find an alien lover who jives with you, who hangs out with you, accommodate them... Be aware you may grow weary of them well before they grow weary of you.
Hence, the need for romantic contracts.
Be honest.
But, be aware their home may be quite a distance away, and a break up may mean they are very lonely and may sabotage the ship, or self terminate (You do not want this unless agreed upon)

In wartime maneuvers: Your ship may be underpowered, but a defensive show of opposition may be construed as sufficient to continue on with your endeavors.
It may also be an excuse to obliterate your vessel.
However, being destroyed while being harmless may take a backseat to powering up your (inferior) weapons and maybe, even firing upon the enemy vessel.
If they do not fire back and destroy you, it is a fine idea to move on rather quickly. Do not send a thank you message.
When encountering an advanced civilization... Obey their protocols to a tee. Take liberties with love if you are able... Date an alien woman. Have lunch with her. (Make sure you won't kill her by breathing on her...) maybe even make love to her, outside of liberties... But be aware, you may also face death for this as punishment.
Many captains would say, "Worth."
Breedaibility of your companions: If your companion is a canine, it is good to have a breeding pair, as you will outlive them, and, perhaps, you will enter into a bisexual or polyamorous relationship with them. Religious norms do not apply outside of earths atmosphere

Explorers are given liberties.
Shippers are rigid. Obey the captain. You signed on for this. You will be tested to your limits and beyond.
Same goes for everyone.
This is all I have for now.
