As an integral part of our traditions, solemn obligations represent a time in our history when the revelation of our secrets had more practical consequences.
Modern interpretations of the P s refer to their esoteric connection with the chakras, among other things. New rituals retain the Ob but remove the P..s as being too primitive for our modern sensibilities. As a firm believer in tradition, I would be unhappy to see the Ob..s removed, if for no other reason that they have been part of the Craft since earliest times. They lend an atmosphere of age even in modern times.
Take a look at the ceremonies of Opening Parliament, for example. Many parts of it, like searching the cellars, harken back to historic events that refresh our awareness of the past.
In the Craft the Ob..s represent a connection with our past and serve that function, if no other. Texts of rituals are available on the web and promising to hele and conceal and never reveal them are truly empty gestures. But memorizing them is part of masonic training that joins the past with present in the person of the Initiate.
While the solemn obligation looks and perhaps is somewhat contrived and manipulative, the arrangement of brethren and the intent allows a real connection to flow from the GAOTU on some occasions.
I recall one candidate breaking out in a sweat from the heat he experienced while all around him were cool.

What is your point?
There are two situations in which the nerves will stimulate the sweat glands, causing perspiration: during physical heat and during emotional stress.
I see you are a seeker of truth regardless of implication.
When I asked the candidate later, he said he was hot. He did not say he was stressed. I was right next to him as SD and it was not hot in the room. From where did his heat come?
It is common in guided group meditations that there will be periods of hotness and sometimes periods of coldness quite independently of the room and seemingly related to inner events jointly seen by the group.
This may be understood in term of the E.T. Whittaker work that underpins manipulation of the aetheric as discussed elsewhere on this forum. Thus the entities jointly seen by the group may affect the aetheric flows in the room, causing surpluses and deficits.

Many people feels hot when stressed and need to take off layers of clothing.

He did not look stressed and did not say he was stressed when I discussed it with him outside the temple. You may be party to information not available at that time.

I am party to common knowledge of which you appear to be wilfully ignorant.
What is the most likely explanation? The candidate became a bit hot and sweaty from being the centre of attention in an unfamiliar context or that he was the subject of a supernatural attack?
