This is a dramatization of the ancient epic Ramayama, which traces the adventures of Ram(a) and his consort, Sita who is stolen by Ravana and transported to Lanka (Ceylon) to be his wife. The story is interwoven with ideas now found in most esoteric schools, particularly the power of duty (dharma) and reincarnation.
This epic records the events in the war of the Kauravas and the Pandava princes. Within the greater story is a record of the interchange between Arjuna and Krishna in what is called the Bhagavad Gita, a summation of the Hindu faith, its ethical, theological and philosophical belief systems that have persisted through the centuries and have appeared in modern occult movements.
Both films are of epic proportions as well. You may want to watch them in smaller time periods to make the material more digestible.
