I was reminded of this by Jackjack's post querying the use of hands for Divine Energy. Here is the first rule:
Rule I The Solar Angel collects himself, scatters not his force but, in meditation deep, communicates with his reflection.

I think this is a different proposition - that the solar angel (intelligence using the soul body) needs to focus before it is able to communicate with the human personality
This proposition has its corollary: the solar angel may ignore the human persona for very long periods.

Rule 2:
When the shadow hath responded, in meditation deep the work proceedeth. The lower light is thrown upward; the greater light illuminates the three, and the work of the four proceedeth.
Rule 3:
The Energy circulates. The point of light, the product of the labors of the four, waxeth and growth. The myriads gather round its glowing warmth until its light recedes. Its fire grows dim. Then shall the second sound go forth.
Rule 4
Sound, light, vibration, and the form blend and merge, and thus the work is one. It proceedeth under the law, and naught can hinder now the work from going forward. The man breathes deeply. He concentrates his forces, and drives the thought-form from him.

I suggest that the shadow that responds is the personality and it shines its (lower) mental light upward seeking meaning.

Rule 5
Three things engage the Solar Angel before the sheath created passes downward; the condition of the waters, the safety of the one who thus creates, and steady contemplation. Thus are the heart, the throat, and eye, allied for triple service.

>.we three do meet and agree ? Can't help but think about R.Arch threes
Much of the local Creation is manifested through triplicities of various types. There is a close analogy between the scene in Rule 5 and the scene reproduced in Holy Royal Arch but that is not the intent of the Rule. The "sheath" is the soul (light) body.
>Are the devas of the lower four related to the tassels?
Again there is a valid analogy, but at quite different scales. In Masonic terms it is probably better to relate the 4 tassels to the 4 rivers in Eden, they in turn being symbolic of flows from the centre of the galaxy.

Rule 7
The dual forces on the plane (whereon the vital power must be sought) are seen; the two paths face the solar Angel; the poles vibrate. A choice confronts the one who meditates.

Rule 8
The Agnisuryans respond to the sound. The waters ebb and flow. Let the magician guard himself from drowning, at the point where land and water meet. The midway spot, which is neither dry nor wet, must provide the standing place whereon his feet are set. When water, land and air meet there is the place for magic to be wrought.

Rule 9
Condensation next ensues. The fire and waters meet, the form swells and grows. Let the magician set his form upon the proper path.
Rule 10
As the waters bathe the form created, they are absorbed and used. The form increases in its strength; let the magician thus continue until the work suffices. Let the outer builders cease their labors then, and let the inner workers enter on their cycle.
Rule 11
Three things the worker with the law must now accomplish. First, ascertain the formula which will confine the lives within the ensphering wall; next, pronounce the words which will tell them what to do and where to carry that which has been made; and finally, utter forth the mystic phrase which will save him from their work.

Rule 12
The web pulsates. It contracts and expands. Let the magician seize the midway point and thus release those "prisoners of the planet" whose note is right and justly tuned to that which must be made.
Rule 13
The magician must recognize the four; note in his work the shade of violet they evidence, and thus construct the shadow. When this is so, the shadow clothes itself, and the four become the seven.
Rule 14
The sound swells out. The hour of danger to the soul courageous draweth near. The waters have not hurt the white creator and naught could drown nor drench him. Danger from fire and flame menaces now, and dimly yet the rising smoke is seen. Let him again, after the cycle of peace, call on the Solar Angel.
Rule 15
The fires approach the shadow, yet burn it not. The fire sheath is completed. Let the magician chant the words that blend the fire and water.

Rule 2: When the shadow hath responded, in meditation deep the work proceedeth. The lower light is thrown upward; the greater light illuminates the three, and the work of the four proceedeth. What is the work of the four? (I'm a slow learner ) Which three are illuminated? (In for a penny in for a pound ) I usually equate the three with body/soul/spirit or Ida/Pingals/Sushumna.

The lower light is from the personality - getting its act together and aspiring to connection with soul.
The soul may respond (or not) and lets its greater light illumine the personality. Thus the four (soul + mind + emotions + physical body) work towards refinement and integration
Triplicities exist throughout this side of Creation so that the 15 Rules may have several levels of meaning. (As above so below)
(The other face of Creation may be manifested through fives - hence a higher purpose for the FPOF is to manifest a link. This is the reciprocal of the avataric flow and thereby constitutes a significant invocation in the fulfilment of Creative Purpose)
While the 15 Rules may not be transparent to the lower mind, there may be sense of rightness about them (mind as a sense organ?).
If so, there is value in holding the intention to work upon the Rules even if not understood. The holding of the intention is an on-going signal to the intelligences of the chakras that they are to apply themselves to this FC work.

I mean to ask more about the rules on this thread, if others don't gt in first. On the run at present but will get back to this. Thanks Paul

>Mind, emotions, physical body ... I still equate those three with the jnr officers, masonically speaking.
That is a fair comparison but not necessarily exact.
Normally in a human there will be an upper trinity (monad, will & heart), a connecting entity (soul), and a lower trinity (lower mental, emotional and physical) = hence seven.
That pattern can be fitted to the lodge if the SD represents the soul and the Tyler represents the physical body - but that would leave the IG representing the emotions and with the use of the sword that would seem strange.
The physical body can be separated into the dense physical (Tyler) and the etheric (IG) and that seems a better identification.
Then we could have JD as emotional and SD as lower mental. Then the JW could represent the soul (sun at its meridian). The SW representing strength (will) is out of sequence for good reason, and the WM as wisdom (heart-intuition) since our God is a God of Love.
With that identification we need to represent the Monad by the Divinity invoked at the opening and/or by the IPM.
