The ten numbers formed from nothing are the Decad: these are seen in the fingers of the hands, five on one, five on the other, and over them is the Covenant by voice spiritual, and the rite of Circumcision, corporeal (as of Abraham).
Ten are the numbers of the ineffable Sephiroth, ten and not nine, ten and not eleven. Learn this wisdom, and be wise in the understanding of it, investigate these numbers, and draw knowledge from them, fix the design in its purity, and pass from it to its Creator seated on his throne.
A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy to him that understands. Proverbs 14:6
They say Japan was made by a sword. They say the old gods dipped a coral blade into the ocean, and when they pulled it out four perfect drops fell back into the sea, and those drops became the islands of Japan. I say, Japan was made by a handful of brave men. Warriors, willing to give their lives for what seems to have become a forgotten word: honor. -The Last Samurai
As I recall from a complaint by one of the gods in the Sumerian literature, the presence of a foreskin and long labia were the primary differences in appearance between the gods and humans. Circumcision thereby made the male humans appear more like gods.
The female god complained that male gods were attracted by the long labia of human females.
We have that in common.

Does the existence or non-existence of God or gods have any effect on the question of human happiness? According to the Buddha, no. Since we are all looking for wisdom from the East then we should pay attention. There is no enduring self, this is demonstrable. The pervasive sense of dissatisfaction comes from a desire to have perfect enduring self. That doesn't happen by everything that we know. Do you have evidence to the contrary that is more than some text that has been edited several times over?

I don't have an exact answer but there may be several factors
One is the size issue where increasing size of finger reduces the capacity for precise and delicate work - hence the accounts of giants with 6 fingers but decreasing finger size reduces strength - hence accounts of small humanoids with 4
There may however be more subtle reasons. As you may recall the Tree of Life (in 3 column form) is found on the first 3 fingers of each hand. I wonder then whether some 5 fold reality is anchored in the human hand.
The obvious one is the theory of 5 elements
Five Fingers for Five Elements * Thumb Fire * Index Air * Middle Aakash * Ring Earth * Little Water
