Animal species vary quite a lot in the number of toes - typically from one to five toes. Why do humans have five fingers and toes? Most all mammals have five digits, excepting those who are hoved or some variation thereof. Those you think only have four have a dewclaw, which is the fifth. We evolved that way, along with all other mammal life on this planet, with certain odd adaptations. Or, perhaps our alien overlords from Zeta Reticuli created us that way...

It may be easier to answer how humans have five fingers than why they do.

Just when I think I know it all... Off the top of my head I am thinking that maybe those charts that display the Chinese median lines might give a clue. But I honestly have never thought about that matter before. I know that energy pours forth from the finger tips. I play games with the kids, tickling them without touching them. I have a book on Mudras, I think I might check that out as well. Popes, priests, holy men from all over the world use specific hand positions and movements (as do Freemasons), so they must mean something or even produce an effect maybe... as in the 'blessing' sign. Good question. (and we can't forget Crocodile Dundee with the now famous thumb and pinky hand gesture with cattle. Tried that one on the cat, didn't work ;D )

1 Chronicles 20:4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued. 5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver's beam. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

"Tangaroa is one of the most important Polynesian gods - the legends say that he separated heaven from the earth - some say he even created everything. ....Tangaroa is said to have six fingers."

"Meng Zhaoguo, a rural worker from northeast Wuchang city, explains he was 29 when he broke his marital vows for the first and only time -- with an extraterrestrial of unusually robust build.
"She was 10 feet [3.03 metres] tall and had six fingers, but otherwise she looked completely like a human,'' he says. "I told my wife all about it afterwards. She wasn't too angry.''

Or, perhaps our alien overlords from Zeta Reticuli created us that way... It seems that the gods and giants were often 6 fingered. What would be the point of reducing humans to 5?

Perhaps we didn't need more than five?

Perhaps the giants needed 6 fingers to provide a better capacity for dealing with small objects.

What giants? Would very small people then need only 4 or maybe 3 fingers? Come now people, you are all better than that.

Would very small people then need only 4 or maybe 3 fingers? .. You could be on to something there. "Amphibian / water-dwelling (a/k/a "reptilian") humanoid (e.g. incidents of Caponi, Italy 1993 and Varginha Brazil 1996). Height 0.70-1.2m (2.5-4ft). Skin is reported hairless wet/oily glistering brown reticulated, "like a frog", "damp and clammy", but not smooth skin: "bumpy", "big warts", "like extreme acne", "deformed", "ugly" (terms used by witnesses). Some sightings report them covered with brown hair. Large oval head, large almond-shaped eyes (jelly-like, no pupils, black or reddish depending on lighting conditions), no visible ears, two nostrils, slit for mouth (photo). Proportionally short arms, small palms with three (3) webbed claw-like fingers. Proportionally long strong legs, feet with 3 central toes and a "claw-like appendage" www.hyper.net/ufo/occupants.htmlAnd again: "Mary Bush, who was secretary to the base hospital administrator, told mortician Glenn Dennis that she saw "a creature from another world." She was called on to assist two doctors in a hospital room where three "alien" bodies were being examined. Though suffocated by an overwhelming odor from the bodies, she clearly recalled that the aliens had four fingers, and no thumbs. Joseph Montoya, Lt. Governor of New Mexico, told Pete Anaya that he had seen "four little men."" www.ufocasebook.com/Roswell3.htmlAnd again: "They didn't have hair. Their nose were very small, mouth was very small. Their ears were 1.5 inches long. Their hands and legs were very slender and had only three fingers on their hands and feet. They didn't wear clothes. They were as black as buffalo." www.ufocasebook.com/srilankaaliens.html

It highly unlikely that height has anything to do with the number of digits on each hand.
It is claims like these that make many shy away from any serious esoteric and/or hard to "prove" matters.

It highly unlikely that height has anything to do with the number of digits on each hand. Although as you see, I easily found accounts of small humanoids with fewer fingers and giants with 6 fingers. Then they are easily disturbed and properly should leave esoteric matters alone. Reality can be far more horrific than numbers of digits.

Paul, you have found an account. A corpse would do much better than an account. X-rays, even a decent photograph would be better than an account. You can find an account for anything.

That is the trouble with proof. Eye witnesses can lie or be mistaken. Photos can be faked or Photoshopped. What would be absolute proof?
If only we could tell the Real form the Unreal then life would be much easier.

Short of "absolute proof" something would be better than nothing. Unlike with an account we could then test the evidence. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophic_burden_of_proof
