I recall a GD magician who late in his life started to see nature spirits very clearly. After a few years, one of his friendly nature spirits reminded him of an event when he was about 4 years old. He was at a wishing well and had thrown in a coin and wished to see fairies. The nature spirit told him that his wish had been heard and the nature spirits started a process that some 60 years resulted in his inner sight.
The pyjamas used in some jurisdictions for initiation may reflect the clothing of the condemned going to the gallows in the middle ages. I am not sure about that as it would seem more economical to hang people in their own clothes.
