Personally I would be inclined to wait for both a reasonable number of recharge stations and also for photovoltaics on the roof of the car - so that even if the battery goes flat there will be some recharge after being parked outdoors for a few hours of daylight.
Still if you are only intending urban trips then current electric cars are probably ok although mostly rather boring. Tesla cars are likely the best.
In Australia some state governments or their statutory authorities have used a few electric cars for some years - without too much enthusiasm. It may be possible to discover their experiences.
