That is why I decided never to join any society or group which requires me to hold any secrets, because I would rather not know than to be held a prisoner of a promise to secrecy.

Freemasonry has substitute secrets, and those are considered by mainstream Grand Lodges to be only the recognition signs. Thus the secrets of Masonry exist to protect themselves. And the secrets are widely available on the web.
The genuine secrets however still exist and may discovered by worthy and active brethren.
