Weishaupt is usually in German, but the AE Waite collection is of particular interest to Freemasons. The names have changed but the characters are quite similar. Readers familiar with the Golden Dawn will find much of interest.
>Sounds like that Jesus guy knew what he was talking about when he said not to take any oaths
I believe that Roman Catholic religious take a variety of oaths - e.g. swearing to poverty, chastity and obedience.
>Freemasonry's penalties may be serious
The penalties are both a remembrance of those in the ancient mysteries where death was used to protect the secrets, and of the form of various important past events, e.g. Apep having his body cut across and burned to ashes.
The obligations are primarily to the Great Architect of the Universe and the energy structure of the event may permit a liquid light from on high to flow into the candidate. When this occurs quite often the candidate breaks out into a sweat when all around are cool.
>don't think that they amount to cursing oneself for all of eternity.
While it may surprise some, the Great Architect of the Universe is tolerant of child-like behavior in humans.
>When this occurs quite often the candidate breaks out into a sweat
It is said in the Islamic tradition that when the prophet PBUH received revelation he broke out into sweats and fits, an interesting observation if I say so myself.
Waite's book on the Fratres Lucis includes one of the most absurdly f----d up sacred oaths I've ever had the displeasure of reading or witnessing.
I thought Waite was considered one of the more grounded members of the GD.
From the little I have read of his works he seemed to of understood the risks and rewards of the secret ways pretty well and seemed level-headed.
I might be basing my understanding on his so called rivalry with Alister but perhaps when you compared any member to him they seemed a saint in comparison
I thought he was the defacto source on the tarot system but I seem to remember you saying before that Tarot wasn't your thing.
I did use the cards for imagery when first studying the kabbalah as according to Dions instruction and I certainly noticed the effects via visions.
Weather or not that can be attributed to the cards or the text I don't know as I studied with both at all times but I do believe the former played a vital role.
Have you not found any of the cards to correlate with your own personal meditation on the kabbalah?
Tarot us useful for delving into certain meditative states according to a certain tradition, but not all aspirants want to use Tarot. There are other means and ways of doing the same as what is taught by Tarot.
Distant peaks emerge....clear as day. The hermit's lantern turns to guide the way. Hermit's Way - F. J. Rogers
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the depictions found on the tarot suppose to be representative of what waite visioned when meditating on each different sepheroth?
The images make logical sense when used in tandom with the tree but if there is more to them than that I can't say,the colours may pay a pivotal role but there are so many different decks with different colour schemes it's hard to know which is more effective.
The Tarot is embedded in an older system. It may be time to move on.
There are more modern ways of going about the same thing as Tarot. Some aspirants don't take to Tarot very easily. It may depend on which deck you're using. Some decks are not looked on very favourably by certain groups. BOTA recommend the P. Case deck or the AE Waite deck. However, it's not by any means essential to use Tarot.

Just took a look at the BOTA deck and whilst the artwork seems faithful to the Rider-Waite deck it's definitely more striking ,may end up getting a set if and when I get back to Dion's book.
>Some aspirants don't take to Tarot very easily
See I don't except to get results from any of this but to just study and see how I can put it all together but when I started to have uncommon dreams/visions from using the Tarot I decided to stop and move on, maybe they were having the desired effect but it put me off.
I know some Tarot readers are quite successful in it's use and even make a living off of them but I don't feel that is a good use of them and maybe an abuse even.
The etheric body, not being pure enough, causes friction to the light passing through. Friction produces heat.

I have not been drawn to Waite from what of his I have read. I do not know that he was particularly skilled.
I've got rather mixed views on AE Waite. Sometimes he seems very similar to Foster Case but I think he didn't like gematria which may have caused friction with BOTA.
