Whenever Paul mentions Wagner I run to YouTube and loose myself for a while in Wagner's music. Not that I mind an hour away from my few responsibilities, but I do wonder how many other forumites exhibit this particular weakness or similar ones.
Is it only German composers who elicit responses of ecstasy with their music. No, Italians can do it (one is tempted to say “if they write like Germans!” but I may be prejudiced). IMHO Pucinni was truly inspired when he wrote this passage from his opera Turindot: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoTa-b7cUw0
There are so many examples of music that draw us out of ourselves, that transport us to another place. I know that the response I feel is not universal, but how common is it? Can music work a special magic on those who have taken the “road less traveled?”
